Mike Haynes

Mike Haynes

Mike has been diving for 7 years and teaching for 2, bringing a strong passion for both adventure and mentorship to the Space City Dive Center team. As a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer (MSDT), he teaches a wide range of specialties including Deep, Self-Reliant, Night, Drift, Nitrox, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Full Face Mask, Search & Recovery, and multiple AWARE conservation courses.

His love for the ocean started in Galveston, where he grew up surfing. After meeting scuba divers gearing up for a shore dive near the Flagship Hotel, his curiosity was sparked. It took some time before he got certified, but once he did, diving quickly became a major part of his life.

Mike enjoys both reef and wreck diving, with favorite destinations including Florida in the U.S. and Cozumel and Roatan abroad, where diverse marine life and exciting dive sites keep every trip memorable. His bucket-list dive is Malapascua in the Philippines, where he hopes to encounter thresher sharks.

At Space City Dive Center, Mike values the camaraderie and support of the team, enjoying the opportunity to be surrounded by like-minded people who share a passion for diving.

His favorite part of teaching is working with new divers during Open Water classes. From the nervous excitement at the beginning to the confidence and accomplishment at the end, he enjoys watching students grow and succeed every step of the way.

Outside of diving, Mike enjoys traveling the world with his wife and spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, hiking, and camping. His personal motto, “Proceed without certainty,” reflects his approach to both diving and life — embracing the unknown and pushing forward with confidence.
