Hector
Open Water Scuba Instructor
Hector has been diving for over 20 years and teaching for 2. His love for the underwater world started early, after being gifted a Junior Open Water certification at age 12. Years later, he returned to scuba with a renewed passion, advancing his skills and ultimately becoming a professional instructor.
Hector enjoys night dives, wreck dives, and drift diving, where changing conditions and environments keep every dive exciting. His favorite destinations include Bonaire, for its easy and accessible shore diving, and Cozumel, known for its abundance of dive sites and vibrant aquatic life. On his bucket list are some of the world’s most iconic destinations, including Iceland, the Galápagos Islands, and the Red Sea.
At Space City Dive Center, Hector appreciates the open and supportive environment that encourages both personal and professional growth. He values the opportunity to serve as a PADI ambassador for new students while continuing to develop his own skills as an instructor.
His favorite part of teaching is watching students push past their fears and succeed. Seeing the excitement in a diver’s eyes when they accomplish a skill and realize what they are capable of is what makes teaching truly rewarding for him.
Outside of diving, Hector can usually be found in the woods hunting or out on the trails riding his bike. His personal motto says it all, “Enjoy every moment you can, life is short.”
