PADI Diver Propulsion Vehicle Specialty
The PADI Diver Propulsion Vehicle (DPV) specialty introduces divers to the safe use of underwater scooters for recreational diving. DPVs allow divers to travel farther with less effort, but they also add speed, task loading, and equipment considerations that require proper training.
In this course, you’ll learn how to operate a DPV, manage buoyancy and trim while under propulsion, and plan dives that account for battery life, navigation, and separation risks. Emphasis is placed on control, awareness, and conservative decision-making so DPV use enhances the dive rather than complicating it.
At Space City Dive Center, DPV training focuses on real-world application. You’ll practice controlled starts and stops, team procedures, and safe ascent and exit planning so you can use a DPV responsibly in a variety of environments.
